Tottenham are targeting Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer this summer.

The 25-year-old has impressed once again on loan at Aston Villa and could walk away from Old Trafford for nothing this summer when his contract expires.

Spurs could persuade Johnstone to move to the capital as Hugo Lloris' back-up, claim the Sun, though it remains unclear whether he will be content to be a back-up.

Villa's promotion push, likely through the play-offs, will be key in Johnstone's decision, while the Red Devils could still extend his contract after seven loans since coming through the academy.

Jose Mourinho has no regrets over Arsene Wenger battles and hopes outgoing Arsenal boss stays in management

Jose Mourinho has said he hopes Arsene Wenger does not retire from football after paying tribute to his former sparring partner.

The Manchester United manager said: “If he's happy I'm happy, if he's sad, I'm sad.

"I always wish the best for my opponents, I always wish the best, so for me that's the point, if he's happy with the decision he makes and looks forward to the next chapter of his career and his life I'm really happy for him.

"If he's sad, I'm sad. I'm pretty sure we as a club and especially because Mr Wenger and Arsenal were for many many years the biggest rivals of Sir Alex's era, I'm pretty sure that we as a club will show Mr Wenger the respect he deserves.

"I hope he doesn't retire from football.”

What 'erratic' Paul Pogba has to do to become a Manchester United legend, according to Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic believes Paul Pogba can flourish at Manchester United — but only if he gets serious and takes more responsibility on the pitch.

Boss Jose Mourinho is still struggling to get the best out of his former world-record £89million signing on a consistent basis, with Pogba blowing hot and cold this season.

After his two-goal heroics in the 3-2 comeback derby win at Manchester City, Pogba was abject in a shock 1-0 defeat to West Brom a week later, but turned on the style again in the 2-0 win at Bournemouth in midweek with a Man of the Match display.
